My experience and training
I have over 25 years’ experience of working therapeutically. I began my career as an Occupational Therapist in the NHS, working in mental health and dementia services. I’ve also worked in the charity sector in bereavement and sexual violence support services.
I’ve been in private practice as a psychotherapist and counsellor for seven years. I have worked as Senior Lecturer in Integrative Psychotherapy at Metanoia Institute and at Leeds Beckett University in Psychological Therapies and Mental Health. I am currently completing a PhD exploring the long-term influence of child sexual abuse in later life.
This combination of clinical, academic, and teaching experience informs my relational approach to therapy.
I am fully insured and accredited with the BACP. I also maintain my HCPC registration as a qualified occupational therapist.
Issues I work with
You don’t need a diagnosis or a clear agenda to begin therapy. Many people come simply knowing that something isn’t working and wanting space to think.
Examples of presentations I work with include clients who:
are grieving a bereavement or relationship loss
feel stuck, overwhelmed, or emotionally exhausted
experienced childhood abuse or neglect, including sexual abuse
notice becoming a parent brings up unresolved feelings from their own childhood
have experienced stigma or oppression (including racism, homophobia, misogyny, ageism, ableism, or bullying)
have caring responsibilities / support someone living with a chronic illness
are living with a long-term condition
are trainee counsellors and psychotherapists
I use a variety of approaches but am mostly informed by the following:
Psychodynamic
Humanistic
Internal Family Systems
Systemic
